Ingredients
White Pizza Sauce Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cup milk (2% or whole milk)
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- 2 garlic cloves (pressed or finely grated)
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese (shredded)
Instructions
- Melt Butter: Melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Create Roux: Whisk in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and continue whisking for 1-2 minutes, ensuring the mixture does not brown to keep the sauce smooth and pale.
- Add Milk: Slowly pour in 1 1/4 cups of milk while whisking constantly until the mixture becomes smooth, thickened, and bubbly.
- Season the Sauce: Whisk in 1/4 teaspoon sea salt, 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, and the pressed or finely grated 2 garlic cloves to infuse flavor.
- Add Cheese: Stir in 1/4 cup shredded parmesan cheese, whisking for another 30 seconds. Remove the saucepan from heat and continue whisking just until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth.
- Cool and Store: Allow the sauce to cool before using on pizza. Avoid boiling the sauce after adding cheese to prevent curdling. Cover and refrigerate leftover sauce for up to 5 days.
Notes
- Use 2% or whole milk for a creamier sauce; skim milk may result in a thinner consistency.
- Do not let the roux brown, as it can change the flavor and color of the sauce.
- Press or finely grate garlic to maximize its flavor infusion.
- Be careful not to boil the sauce after adding parmesan cheese to prevent curdling.
- This sauce can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
