Description

Whipped Coffee, also known as Dalgona Coffee, is a trendy and delightful beverage made by whipping instant coffee, sugar, and hot water or milk to create a creamy, frothy topping that you pour over a glass of milk. This easy-to-make coffee treat offers a rich, sweet, and smooth coffee experience that can be enjoyed iced or hot.

Ingredients

Whipped Coffee Mixture

  • 2 tbsp instant coffee
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 23 tbsp hot water or milk
  • ½ tbsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 tsp hazelnut extract, almond extract, or maple extract (optional)

Serving

  • About 1 cup milk of choice per serving (cashew milk recommended)
  • Ice (if preparing iced coffee)

Optional Flavorings

  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder + extra 2 tbsp hot water (to mix with whipped coffee)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a tall glass or jar, add instant coffee, granulated sugar, any optional flavorings like vanilla or nut extracts, and hot water or milk. Stir the mixture thoroughly until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Whisk Until Frothy: Using a whisk, electric mixer, or hand frother, vigorously whisk the mixture until it forms a thick, creamy, and frothy foam. This usually takes between 2 to 5 minutes depending on your equipment.
  3. Prepare the Milk Base: For iced coffee, fill a cup with ice and pour in milk. For hot coffee, gently heat your milk until warm but not boiling. Pour the milk into your serving cup.
  4. Assemble the Coffee: Spoon or pour about one-third of the whipped coffee on top of the milk, creating a distinct layered effect. Stir together thoroughly if desired, until the foam blends smoothly with the milk.
  5. Store Leftovers: Store any remaining whipped coffee mixture in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Before serving again, re-whip the mixture to restore its frothy texture.

Notes

  • Use equal parts instant coffee and sugar for the best whipped texture.
  • Adjust the amount of hot water or milk to change the foam’s consistency as preferred.
  • Cashew milk is preferred for its creamy texture and taste but any milk or dairy-free alternative works well.
  • Optional flavor extracts enhance the whipped coffee’s aroma and flavor.
  • Store leftover whipped coffee in the fridge but always re-whip before reuse to regain fluffiness.
