Description
This traditional Turkish Coffee recipe guides you through making rich, aromatic coffee right at home using authentic techniques and ingredients. The slow heating method over the stovetop allows a thick foam to develop, delivering a perfect cup of strong, flavorful coffee enjoyed with a side of water and Turkish delight.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons cold filtered water (divided into two Turkish coffee cup-sized portions, 1 1/2 tablespoons per cup)
- 2 tablespoons Turkish coffee (finely ground)
- Granulated sugar (optional, according to preference)
Instructions
- Add Ingredients: Place the cold filtered water, the ground Turkish coffee, and sugar (if using) into a cezve, which is the traditional Turkish coffee pot.
- Initial Stirring: Using a small spoon, stir the mixture briefly just to combine the ingredients without dissolving the coffee powder entirely.
- Heat Slowly: Set the cezve on the stovetop over medium heat and slowly bring the mixture to a boil, which usually takes around 3 to 4 minutes. Monitor closely to prevent spilling.
- Foam Collection: As the coffee heats, a dark foam will form on top. Before it comes to a full boil, use a teaspoon to transfer some foam into each of the two Turkish coffee cups.
- First Pour: Pour half of the boiling coffee mixture carefully into the cups over the foam layer.
- Second Boil and Pour: Return the cezve to heat for another 15 to 20 seconds to bring the remaining coffee to a boil, then pour this remaining portion into the cups up to the rim.
- Serve: Serve the coffee immediately with a glass of water and traditional accompaniments such as Turkish delight or chocolate on the side for an authentic experience.
Notes
- Do not stir coffee after it starts heating to preserve the foam.
- Adjust sugar according to taste; traditionally, Turkish coffee can be served unsweetened, medium, or sweet.
- Use a cezve for best results to achieve the authentic taste and foam.
- Serve immediately as Turkish coffee is meant to be enjoyed fresh and hot.
- Allow grounds to settle at the bottom before drinking; do not drink the sediment.
