Description

These juicy and flavorful turkey burgers are made with lean ground turkey, aromatic spices, and a touch of Worcestershire sauce, pan-seared to perfection in a cast iron skillet. Served on toasted buns with fresh lettuce, onion, and optional pickles, they make a delicious and healthier alternative to traditional beef burgers, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or casual gathering.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds 93% lean ground turkey
  • ½ small yellow onion, grated
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Burger Assembly

  • 6 hamburger buns, toasted
  • ½ cup good quality mayonnaise (Duke’s or Helman’s recommended)
  • ¼ cup ketchup (optional)
  • 6 romaine lettuce leaves
  • ½ red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup dill pickles, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, grated onion, garlic powder, egg, breadcrumbs, mustard powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until fully combined. Use your hands to gently mix everything together, then form the mixture into 6 patties that are slightly larger than the buns.
  2. Cook the patties: Heat the olive oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium heat. Add the patties carefully and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side. Use an instant-read meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F, indicating the turkey is fully cooked. Avoid pressing down on the patties to keep them juicy.
  3. Assemble the burgers: Spread mayonnaise and ketchup (if using) on the cut side of each toasted bun. Layer with a romaine lettuce leaf, a turkey patty, thinly sliced red onion, and dill pickles if desired. Close the buns and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Do not press the patties while cooking to retain juiciness.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the turkey reaches a safe internal temperature of 165°F.
  • To add moisture, sometimes a tablespoon of mayonnaise can be mixed into the patties.
  • Customize toppings or condiments as preferred, such as adding cheese or avocado slices.
  • Make sure to toast the buns for extra texture and flavor.
