Description

Tirokafteri, also known as Greek spicy feta dip, is a creamy, flavorful dip made from feta cheese, roasted red peppers, and chili peppers. Perfect as an appetizer or snack, it offers a delightful combination of tangy, spicy, and savory flavors. This quick and easy recipe takes just five minutes to prepare and pairs wonderfully with pita chips, bread, vegetable sticks, Greek salad, or tzatziki.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 7 oz (200 g) block of feta cheese
  • 5 oz (140 g) drained jarred roasted red peppers (or homemade roasted red bell peppers)
  • 1-2 red chili peppers (start with 1 and add more to taste)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 garlic clove

Garnish (Optional)

  • Extra crumbled feta cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Extra virgin olive oil drizzle

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Gather the feta cheese, drained roasted red peppers, olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic clove, and red chili peppers. If you prefer, roast your own red bell peppers and drain them before use.
  2. Blend the dip: In a small food processor, combine the feta cheese, roasted red peppers, olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic, and one red chili pepper. Blend everything until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If you want a milder or spicier dip, start with one chili pepper and add the second after tasting.
  3. Adjust seasoning: Taste the dip and adjust the spice level or any seasonings to your preference by adding more chili or a pinch of salt if needed.
  4. Garnish and serve: Transfer the Tirokafteri to a serving dish. Garnish with extra feta cheese crumbles, chopped fresh parsley, red pepper flakes, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Serve immediately with pita chips, bread, vegetable sticks, or alongside Greek salad and tzatziki.

Notes

  • Tirokafteri can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Allow it to come to room temperature before serving for best flavor.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, blend for longer or strain before serving.
  • You can adjust the spiciness by using mild red chili peppers or omitting them altogether for a milder dip.
  • Substitute roasted red peppers with fresh roasted ones if preferred for a fresher flavor.
  • Serve it as part of a meze platter or as a spread for sandwiches.
