Ingredients
Strawberry Milk Tea
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 bag tea (2-3 teaspoons loose leaf black or green tea, e.g., Twinings Irish Breakfast black tea)
- ½ cup half and half (or other milk)
- ⅓ cup fresh strawberries, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon simple syrup (store-bought or homemade)
Boba (Optional)
- 1 cup boiling water
- ¼ cup quick-cook tapioca boba pearls
- 2 tablespoons simple syrup (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tablespoon prepared tea (from the tea above)
Instructions
- Steep the Tea: Pour 1 cup boiling water over the tea bag in a heat-safe glass and steep for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bag and set aside to cool to room temperature for cold tea or keep hot for serving.
- Prepare the Strawberries (Cold): Add finely chopped strawberries and simple syrup to a glass and muddle them until they form a liquid pulp.
- Assemble Cold Strawberry Milk Tea: Add cooked boba (optional), ice, cooled tea, and half and half to the muddled strawberries. Stir well and enjoy with a large straw.
- Prepare the Strawberries (Hot): In a saucepan over medium heat, combine finely chopped strawberries and simple syrup, lightly smash until pulp forms. Add half and half and bring to a light simmer, then remove from heat. Optionally strain out the strawberry pulp.
- Assemble Hot Strawberry Milk Tea: Pour hot tea into a cup or mug, add the warmed strawberry milk mixture, stir, and sip carefully.
- Cook Boba (Optional): Bring 1 cup of water to a boil and add ¼ cup tapioca pearls. Cook according to package instructions. Drain and combine with 2 tablespoons simple syrup and 1 tablespoon prepared tea. Allow to soak for 10–30 minutes before adding to the milk tea.
Notes
- Use black tea for a more robust flavor or green tea for a lighter taste.
- Simple syrup can be replaced with honey or agave syrup for different sweetness profiles.
- Adjust milk type to your preference such as whole milk, almond milk, or oat milk for variation.
- If you prefer no pulp in your hot milk tea, strain the strawberry mixture before combining.
- Boba preparation times may vary, always follow package instructions for best results.
- Serve cold milk tea with large straws to enjoy the boba pearls easily.
