Description

This Simple 20-Minute Brioche French Toast recipe is a quick and delicious breakfast treat featuring rich, egg-soaked brioche slices cooked to golden perfection in a skillet. Enhanced with warm cinnamon and vanilla, this classic French toast is perfect for a cozy morning and can be topped with syrup, butter, fruit, or whipped cream.

Ingredients

Egg Mixture

  • 4 large eggs
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Bread and Cooking

  • 8 slices of brioche bread
  • Butter (for skillet, about 2-4 tbsp total)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the egg mixture: In a shallow bowl or pan, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined. Using a shallow dish helps ensure the bread can soak evenly.
  2. Heat the skillet: Place a skillet on medium heat and allow it to warm up. Add about ¼ to ½ tablespoon of butter per piece of bread to the skillet, letting it melt and coat the surface evenly.
  3. Soak the brioche bread: Dip one side of each brioche slice into the egg mixture, letting it soak for 15-20 seconds, then flip and soak the other side for the same amount of time. Lift the bread and gently shake off excess egg mixture before placing it in the hot skillet. Cook 2 or more slices at once depending on skillet size.
  4. Cook the French toast: Fry each slice for about 2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. If the bread is browning too quickly, reduce the heat slightly to prevent burning and ensure thorough cooking.
  5. Serve immediately: Remove the French toast from the skillet and serve hot. Top with your favorite toppings such as syrup, butter, powdered sugar, fresh fruit, or whipped cream for an extra special touch.

Notes

  • Use brioche bread for best texture and flavor; other rich breads like challah can also work well.
  • Adjust soaking time slightly for thicker or thinner bread slices to avoid sogginess or dryness.
  • Cooking on medium heat ensures the custard cooks through without burning the bread.
  • Butter can be replaced or supplemented with oil if preferred, but butter adds authentic richness.
  • Serve immediately as French toast is best enjoyed fresh and warm.
