Description
These Salted Caramel Brûlée Chocolate Pretzels combine crunchy salted pretzels with rich caramel and smooth melted chocolate, finished with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt for the perfect sweet and salty treat. Easy to make and perfect for parties or as a decadent snack.
Ingredients
Caramel
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons salted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup heavy cream, at room temperature
Pretzels and Coating
- 1 bag (16 ounce) salted pretzels
- 24 ounces milk, semi-sweet, or dark chocolate, melted
- Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Prepare the baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
- Make the caramel: In a medium skillet over medium heat, cook the granulated sugar, stirring occasionally, until it melts completely and turns golden brown, about 6–8 minutes. Be careful as the sugar may smoke slightly.
- Add butter and cream: Turn off the heat and whisk in the softened butter followed by the room temperature heavy cream. Return the skillet to medium-high heat and cook until the caramel is very bubbly, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat to prevent burning.
- Dip the pretzels in caramel: Using a fork, dip each salted pretzel into the warm caramel, letting excess drip off. Place each coated pretzel on the prepared baking sheet and allow them to set for about 5 minutes.
- Melt the chocolate: Melt your choice of milk, semi-sweet, or dark chocolate until smooth and glossy.
- Coat pretzels with chocolate: Dip each caramel-coated pretzel into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully covered. Return the chocolate-covered pretzels to the baking sheet.
- Chill and set: Place the baking sheet in the freezer for 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden completely.
- Store: Once set, transfer the pretzels to an airtight container and keep them refrigerated to maintain freshness.
Notes
- Make sure the heavy cream is at room temperature to prevent the caramel from seizing when added.
- Use a fork to dip pretzels for easy handling and to let excess caramel drip off.
- Freeze the dipped pretzels briefly to speed up the chocolate setting process.
- Store the pretzels in an airtight container in the fridge to keep them crisp and fresh.
- Flaky sea salt enhances the flavor contrast—don’t skip this finishing touch!
