Description

These Salmon Rice Balls are a quick and delicious snack or appetizer featuring steamed rice mixed with flavorful salmon flakes, soy sauce, sesame oil, and toasted black sesame seeds. Ready in just 10 minutes, they make a perfect bite-sized treat with a savory Asian-inspired taste.

Ingredients

Salmon Rice Ball Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups steamed short-medium grain white rice
  • 2 1/2 tbsp salmon flakes
  • 1/2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp toasted black sesame seeds, plus extra for garnish
  • a little oil for hand coating

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the steamed rice, salmon flakes, soy sauce, sesame oil, and toasted black sesame seeds until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Prepare Your Hands: Put on a plastic glove on one hand and lightly coat it with a small amount of oil to prevent the rice from sticking to your hand.
  3. Form Rice Balls: When the rice mixture is warm enough to handle but not hot, scoop about 2 tablespoons of the rice mixture into your palm and gently squeeze to form a compact ball.
  4. Repeat and Garnish: Continue shaping the remaining rice mixture into balls. Once all are formed, garnish each with a sprinkle of toasted black sesame seeds for an appealing finish.

Notes

  • Use warm rice to help the rice balls stick together better, but avoid hot rice to prevent burning your hands.
  • Lightly oiling your gloved hand helps prevent the rice from sticking and makes shaping easier.
  • These rice balls can be served immediately or refrigerated for a chilled snack later.
  • For added flavor, consider mixing in chopped green onions or a small amount of wasabi with the rice.
  • Short-medium grain rice works best for stickiness; avoid long grain rice for this recipe.
