Description

Puppy Chow Chocolate Truffles are a delicious no-bake dessert featuring crunchy rice Chex cereal mixed with creamy peanut butter and powdered sugar, coated in melted semi-sweet chocolate, and finished with a dusting of powdered sugar. These bite-sized treats are perfect for holiday gifting or a sweet snack anytime.

Ingredients

Puppy Chow Mixture

  • 4 cups rice Chex cereal
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar

Coating

  • 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare Peanut Butter Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the peanut butter and 1/3 cup powdered sugar. Heat in 10-second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is melted and smooth.
  2. Prepare Cereal: Place the rice Chex cereal in a large bowl and crush it into mostly small pieces, leaving some larger pieces for texture.
  3. Combine Mixture: Pour the melted peanut butter mixture over the crushed cereal. Stir well to coat evenly. Refrigerate the mixture for about 30 minutes to chill and firm up.
  4. Melt Chocolate: Using a double boiler, melt the semi sweet chocolate chips gently over simmering water until smooth.
  5. Form Truffles: Remove the cereal mixture from the refrigerator. Roll the mixture into approximately 1 1/2 tablespoon-sized balls, making about 18 truffles.
  6. Coat with Chocolate: Dip each ball into the melted chocolate to coat thoroughly, then place the coated truffles on a tray and refrigerate until the chocolate hardens.
  7. Finish with Powdered Sugar: Place 1/2 cup powdered sugar in a bowl. Once the chocolate has hardened, roll the truffles in the powdered sugar to coat evenly.
  8. Serve and Enjoy: Your Puppy Chow Chocolate Truffles are now ready to be served or packaged as a delightful gift.

Notes

  • For easier rolling, you can lightly grease your hands or wet them slightly to prevent sticking.
  • The crushed cereal can be adjusted to your preferred texture; keep some larger pieces for crunch.
  • Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.
  • You can substitute peanut butter with almond butter for a different flavor if desired.
  • Make sure to melt chocolate gently to avoid burning; use low heat or stir frequently.
