Ingredients
For One Serving
- 2 ounces tequila blanco
- 1 ounce prickly pear syrup
- ¾ ounces fresh squeezed lime juice
- ½ ounces Cointreau
- Ice, as needed
- Agave syrup, for rimming
- Margarita salt, for rimming
- Slice of lime, for garnish
For Pitcher
- 2 cups tequila blanco
- 1 cup prickly pear syrup
- ¾ cup fresh squeezed lime juice
- ½ cup Cointreau
- Agave syrup, for rimming glasses
- Margarita salt, for rimming glasses
- Slices of lime, for garnish
- Ice, as needed
Instructions
- Prepare the Glass Rim: Use a pastry brush to coat the rim of a margarita glass with agave syrup. Invert the glass and press it into margarita salt to create a salted rim. Set the glass aside while you prepare the cocktail.
- Mix the Cocktail (Single Serving): Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the tequila blanco, prickly pear syrup, fresh squeezed lime juice, and Cointreau. Seal the shaker tightly.
- Shake: Vigorously shake the mixture for about 30 seconds until the shaker becomes frosty on the outside and the contents are thoroughly chilled.
- Serve: Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice. Strain the mixed cocktail into the glass, ensuring no ice from the shaker goes into the glass. Garnish with a fresh lime slice for a pop of color and added aroma.
- Prepare Pitcher (Optional): To make multiple servings, combine tequila blanco, prickly pear syrup, fresh lime juice, and Cointreau in a 1.5-quart pitcher. Stir well to blend all the ingredients.
- Chill: Refrigerate the pitcher for several hours to allow the flavors to meld and the cocktail to chill thoroughly before serving.
- Serve Pitcher Style: Before serving, rim individual glasses with agave syrup and margarita salt as described above. Fill each glass with ice and pour the margarita mixture over the ice. Garnish each with a slice of lime.
Notes
- Prickly pear syrup can be found at specialty stores or made at home by simmering prickly pear juice with sugar.
- Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor; bottled lime juice will alter the taste.
- Adjust tequila and syrup ratios to taste for sweetness and strength preference.
- For a frozen version, blend all ingredients with ice instead of shaking.
- Ensure margarita salt is fresh and coarse for better adherence to the glass rim.
- This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled for parties.
