Description
Pickles in a Blanket are a fun and savory appetizer featuring mini dill pickles wrapped in crescent roll dough, layered with a creamy mixture of cream cheese, bacon, and cheddar cheese. These bite-sized treats are easy to prepare and perfect for parties or snacks.
Ingredients
Pickle Wrap Ingredients
- 2 (8 ounce) tubes crescent rolls
- 32 mini dill pickles, patted dry
Filling
- 4 ounces (1/2 block) cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- ¼ cup bacon pieces
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Egg Wash & Seasoning
- 1 egg
- ½ Tablespoon milk (or water)
- Dried dill, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or lightly spraying it with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Prepare crescent rolls: Unroll both tubes of crescent rolls. Slice each triangle in half lengthwise to create 32 thin strips in total, which will serve as the outer wrapping for the pickles.
- Mix filling: In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, bacon pieces, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix thoroughly so the ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Assemble rolls: Spread approximately one tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture onto each crescent roll strip. Then place one mini dill pickle at the wide end of the strip.
- Roll up: Carefully roll each crescent strip from the wide end over the pickle, enclosing it completely, and place the rolled pieces seam side down onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Prepare egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk (or water) until combined. Brush this egg wash over the tops of each crescent roll to encourage browning and adhesion of seasoning.
- Season: Lightly sprinkle dried dill over each rolled crescent to add a touch of herbal flavor and visual appeal.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet on the middle rack of the preheated oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crescent rolls turn golden brown and are cooked through.
- Serve: Remove from the oven, allow to cool slightly, and enjoy your delicious Pickles in a Blanket warm as a snack or appetizer.
Notes
- Ensure mini pickles are well-patted dry to avoid soggy dough.
- Softening the cream cheese to room temperature makes spreading easier.
- Use cooked bacon pieces or bacon bits for convenience.
- Substitute dried dill with fresh dill if desired for a stronger flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
