Description
This Maple Orange Cranberry Sauce is a vibrant, tangy-sweet condiment perfect for holidays or any meal that calls for a flavorful burst of berry goodness. Made with fresh cranberries, freshly squeezed orange juice, pure maple syrup, and a hint of spice from clove, this sauce is simmered to a perfect balance of tartness and sweetness with a luscious, thick texture.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 12 oz bag of fresh cranberries
- 1/2 cup fresh-squeezed orange juice (about 2 oranges)
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- Zest of an orange (about 1 teaspoon)
- Pinch of sea salt
- 1 whole clove
Instructions
- Rinse Cranberries: Rinse the cranberries thoroughly under cool running water and set them aside to drain.
- Simmer Liquids: In a medium-sized saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the orange juice, maple syrup, and water. Bring this mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Add Ingredients: Once simmering, stir in the fresh cranberries, orange zest, sea salt, and whole clove. Stir well and bring the mixture to a full boil.
- Cook and Thicken: Lower the heat to medium-low and cover the saucepan partially, leaving space for steam to escape. Let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally and gently smashing some of the cranberries to help them burst and thicken the sauce.
- Cool and Remove Clove: Remove the pan from heat and let the sauce cool. When transferring to a serving dish, do so in small batches to locate and remove the whole clove easily.
- Refrigerate Before Serving: Cover the serving bowl and refrigerate the sauce until chilled and ready to serve.
Notes
- You can substitute maple syrup with honey or brown sugar if desired.
- To enhance spiciness, add cinnamon stick or a pinch of ground ginger during simmering.
- Remove the whole clove before serving to avoid an overpowering clove flavor.
- Store leftover cranberry sauce refrigerated in an airtight container for up to one week.
- For a smoother texture, pulse the cooled sauce slightly in a blender.
