Description

A fresh and vibrant Korean Green Salad featuring mixed greens, crisp apple, cucumber, and red onion, tossed in a flavorful dressing made with soy sauce, rice vinegar, Korean fish sauce, sugar, and optional Korean chili flakes. This quick and easy salad offers a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and savory flavors complemented by a nutty garnish of toasted sesame seeds.

Ingredients

Salad Ingredients

  • 100 g mixed green salad (3.5 ounces)
  • 50 g apple, peeled and thinly sliced (1.8 ounces)
  • 50 g cucumber, thinly sliced (optional) (1.8 ounces)
  • 20 g red onion, thinly sliced (optional) (0.7 ounces)

Dressing Ingredients

  • 2 tsp soy sauce (regular)
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp Korean fish sauce
  • 1 tsp Korean chili flakes (gochugaru) (optional)

Garnish

  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dressing: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, Korean fish sauce, and Korean chili flakes if using. Whisk the ingredients vigorously until the sugar is fully dissolved. If a whisk is not available, use a fork to stir thoroughly. Set the dressing aside to let the flavors meld.
  2. Assemble the Salad: In a large mixing bowl, add the mixed green salad, apple slices, cucumber slices, and red onion. Toss gently to mix the salad ingredients evenly.
  3. Toss with Dressing: Just before serving, pour the dressing over the salad ingredients. Gently toss the salad to evenly coat all components with the dressing, ensuring a balanced flavor throughout.
  4. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the dressed salad to add a nutty flavor and a subtle crunch. Serve the salad immediately for the freshest taste and texture.

Notes

  • For additional texture and variety, feel free to substitute or add pear instead of apple.
  • If Korean fish sauce is unavailable, a small amount of regular fish sauce or an anchovy paste substitute may be used, though flavor will vary slightly.
  • The Korean chili flakes (gochugaru) can be omitted or adjusted according to your spice preference.
  • To keep the salad crisp, add the dressing just before serving to prevent the greens from wilting.
  • This salad is best served fresh and is not recommended for make-ahead storage with dressing mixed in.
