Description
Homemade Mango Shaved Ice, also known as Mango Bingsu, is a refreshing and creamy dessert perfect for warm days. Made by blending fresh mangoes with milk and sweetened condensed milk, then freezing and finely crushing the mixture into a fluffy ice texture, this treat is served topped with fresh mango chunks and optional creamy toppings for a delightful tropical flavor experience.
Ingredients
Fruit and Puree
- 3 ripe mangoes (divided: 1 for puree, 2 for topping)
Liquid Base
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 1 1/4 cups water
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk (divided)
Optional Toppings
- vanilla ice cream (optional)
- whipped cream (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Mango Puree: Cut the fruit off from one mango and place it in a blender along with the milk, water, and half of the sweetened condensed milk. Blend until smooth to create a mango puree. Pour this mixture into ice cube trays and freeze for at least 3 hours or overnight to solidify.
- Form Shaved Ice: Once the mango puree cubes are frozen, add them to a blender and pulse carefully until the cubes break down into coarse crumbs resembling shaved ice. Be cautious not to over-blend to avoid a mushy texture.
- Assemble Dessert: Scoop the shaved mango ice into serving bowls. Top with chunks from the remaining mangoes. Drizzle with the remaining sweetened condensed milk to enhance sweetness and creaminess.
- Serve and Garnish: For an extra indulgent touch, pre-freeze serving bowls to keep the dessert cold longer and top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Freezing the serving bowls helps maintain the icy texture longer upon serving.
- Do not over-process the frozen mango cubes to keep the dessert from becoming too mushy.
- Use ripe mangoes for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
- Optional toppings like ice cream or whipped cream add richness but can be omitted for a lighter version.
