Description

A refreshing and elegant grapefruit gin cocktail featuring the bright flavors of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, floral elderflower liqueur, and premium gin, topped with tonic water and garnished with fresh citrus slices. Perfect for a light, citrusy drink to enjoy on a warm day.

Ingredients

Liquids

  • 3 oz. good quality gin (e.g., Hendrick's)
  • 2 oz. elderflower liqueur
  • 4 oz. freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
  • Tonic water, to serve

Garnishes

  • Grapefruit slices
  • Lime slices
  • Lots of ice
  • Optional: sprig of mint for garnish

Instructions

  1. Squeeze the grapefruit. Slice the grapefruit into chunks and use a citrus press to squeeze the juice into a measuring cup. Strain the juice to remove any pulp or seeds for a smooth cocktail base.
  2. Prep glasses and garnishes. Prepare two cocktail glasses by adding ice and garnishing with grapefruit and lime slices to enhance the presentation and add subtle citrus aromas.
  3. Measure liqueurs and juice. In a cocktail shaker, combine 3 oz. of gin, 2 oz. elderflower liqueur, and 4 oz. freshly squeezed grapefruit juice to blend the flavors.
  4. Shake and pour. Add plenty of ice to the shaker and shake vigorously until the mixture is well chilled. Pour evenly between the prepared glasses, top with tonic water, and optionally garnish with a sprig of mint for a colorful finish.

Notes

  • Use freshly squeezed grapefruit juice for the best flavor; avoid bottled juice if possible.
  • If tonic water is too bitter, try a flavored tonic or soda water with a splash of simple syrup.
  • Adjust the amount of elderflower liqueur for a stronger or lighter floral taste.
  • Serve immediately after shaking to enjoy the cocktail ice cold.
