Description

Goguma Latte is a cozy and comforting Korean sweet potato latte featuring roasted sweet potato blended with milk and sugar, topped with a luscious cream cheese foam. This warm beverage offers a perfect balance of natural sweetness and creamy texture, enhanced with a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutty almond garnish.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 300 g unpeeled Korean sweet potato (about 1 medium sweet potato)
  • 300 ml milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ground cinnamon, for garnish
  • shaved almonds or chopped walnuts, optional garnish

Cheese Foam

  • 2 tbsp cream cheese
  • 3 tbsp whipping cream
  • 1½ tbsp milk
  • ½ tbsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F) to prepare for roasting the sweet potato.
  2. Prepare Sweet Potato: Poke several holes in the unpeeled sweet potato using a fork to allow steam to escape during baking.
  3. Cook Sweet Potato: Bake the sweet potato in the oven for about 45 minutes until it is soft and easily pierced with a fork. Alternatively, you may steam the sweet potato for approximately 30 minutes until tender.
  4. Peel Sweet Potato: Once the sweet potato is cooked and slightly cooled, peel off the skin carefully and discard it.
  5. Blend Sweet Potato Mixture: In a blender, combine the cooked sweet potato, 300 ml of milk, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Blend until smooth and creamy. Add more milk if a thinner consistency is desired.
  6. Heat Mixture: Pour the blended sweet potato mixture into a pot and heat it over medium-high heat. Stir gently to avoid sticking and warm through completely.
  7. Prepare Cheese Foam: Using a frother or hand mixer, beat together the cream cheese, whipping cream, 1½ tablespoons milk, and ½ tablespoon sugar until thick and creamy foam forms.
  8. Assemble Latte: Pour the warmed sweet potato mixture into a cup.
  9. Add Cheese Foam: Top the latte with the prepared cheese foam.
  10. Garnish: Sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon and add shaved almonds or chopped walnuts on top for garnish.
  11. Serve: Serve the goguma latte warm and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • You can steam the sweet potato as a quicker alternative to baking, but baking provides a richer flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar to your taste preference or substitute with a sugar alternative.
  • The texture of the latte can be thinned by adding more milk if desired.
  • The cheese foam adds a delightful creamy contrast; do not skip it for the best authentic experience.
  • For dairy-free versions, substitute milk, cream cheese, and whipping cream with plant-based alternatives.
  • Use freshly ground cinnamon for the best aroma and flavor.
