Ingredients
Sweetened Spice Syrup
- ½ cup (100g) firmly packed light or dark brown sugar
- ½ cup (120mL) water
- 2 Tablespoons (30mL) molasses
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
Cream Base
- ¾ cup (180mL) half-and-half or milk of choice
Instructions
- Prepare the Spice Syrup: In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the brown sugar, water, molasses, vanilla extract, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and ground cloves. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar and fully incorporate the spices. Once boiling, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool for a few minutes to concentrate the flavors and reduce intensity.
- Combine with Cream: Add your preferred half-and-half or milk to the syrup. The recommended ratio is about ¾ cup of cream to ½ cup of the spiced syrup, but you can adjust this proportion to your taste for a stronger or lighter gingerbread flavor. Stir gently until fully combined.
- Store and Use: Transfer the coffee creamer to a covered container or bottle and store it in the refrigerator. It will keep fresh for up to 2 weeks. Shake well before each use, and add to your coffee or tea as desired to enjoy a warm, spiced gingerbread taste year-round.
Notes
- Use half-and-half for a richer, creamier creamer or substitute with any milk alternative such as almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk for dietary preferences.
- The syrup can also be used alone as a sweet syrup to flavor other beverages or desserts.
- Adjust the spices according to your preference—add more ginger for a stronger bite or extra cinnamon for warmth.
- Make sure to store the creamer refrigerated and use within two weeks to ensure freshness and safety.
- If you prefer a sweeter creamer, you can increase the brown sugar or molasses slightly.
