Description

These Garlic Dill Baked Cucumber Chips are a healthy and crunchy snack alternative, infused with zesty dill, garlic, and onion flavors. Thinly sliced cucumbers are dried, seasoned, and slowly baked to perfection, resulting in crispy, savory chips that are perfect for snacking or serving with dips. This easy homemade recipe is a great way to enjoy cucumbers in a new, flavorful way without frying or excessive oil.

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 2 large cucumbers, 8-10 inches long

Seasonings & Condiments

  • 1 tbsp dried dill
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • Sea salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice Cucumbers: Thinly slice the cucumbers into 1/8 inch thick slices to ensure even baking and crispiness.
  2. Dry Cucumbers: Lay the cucumber slices in a single layer on a paper towel. Place another paper towel on top and press lightly to absorb excess moisture. Repeat twice if needed to remove as much water as possible, as drier slices will bake crisper.
  3. Prepare Seasoning Mixture: In a small bowl, combine dried dill, onion powder, garlic powder, and apple cider vinegar. Mix well to create a thick herb-vinegar mixture.
  4. Coat Cucumber Slices: Place the dried cucumber slices in a large mixing bowl. Pour the herb-vinegar mixture over them and toss thoroughly to coat each slice evenly with the seasoning.
  5. Arrange on Baking Sheets: Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Lay the coated cucumber slices out in a single layer on the parchment-lined trays. Sprinkle sea salt over the slices as desired.
  6. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) in preparation for slow baking.
  7. Bake: Place the baking sheets in the oven and bake the cucumber slices for 3 hours, rotating the trays halfway through to ensure even drying and crisping. If needed, bake longer to reach desired crispness.
  8. Cool in Oven: Once baking time is complete, turn off the oven and leave the trays inside to cool completely. This additional step helps the chips become even crispier as they cool.

Notes

  • Make sure to slice cucumbers very thinly for best crisp results.
  • Removing excess moisture is critical to achieve crispy chips; repeat drying step as needed.
  • Keep an eye on baking time; ovens vary and chips may need slightly more time to crisp up fully.
  • Store leftover chips in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
  • Feel free to experiment with other seasonings like paprika or chili powder for different flavors.
