Description

French Dip Tortilla Roll Ups combine tender roast beef, melted provolone cheese, and crispy French fried onions rolled inside warm flour tortillas. Baked to a golden brown and served with a flavorful warm beef consommé dipping sauce, this easy and satisfying appetizer or snack delivers all the rich flavors of a classic French dip sandwich with a fun tortilla twist.

Ingredients

Roll Ups

  • 4 12-inch flour tortillas
  • 4 slices Provolone cheese (about 5 ounces)
  • 1/2 lb deli sliced roast beef
  • 3/4 cup French fried onions
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Dipping Sauce

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) beef consommé
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425ºF to prepare for baking the roll ups until golden and crispy.
  2. Assemble Fillings: Lay the tortillas flat on a clean surface. Tear the provolone cheese into smaller pieces and spread evenly over each tortilla. Lay the deli roast beef evenly on top of the cheese, then sprinkle the French fried onions over the roast beef.
  3. Roll the Tortillas: Fold the sides of each tortilla inward, then roll tightly into a roll. Brush the edge of the tortilla lightly with olive oil to help seal it closed. Place the roll seam side down on a baking sheet. Repeat for all tortillas.
  4. Brush with Olive Oil: Brush the tops of all the rolls with the remaining olive oil to encourage browning during baking.
  5. Bake the Roll Ups: Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes or until the roll ups are nicely browned and crispy on the outside.
  6. Prepare the Dipping Sauce: While the roll ups bake, combine the beef consommé, water, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Warm through until hot but not boiling.
  7. Serve: Cut each roll up in half. Serve warm with the prepared beef consommé dipping sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Use good quality deli roast beef for best flavor.
  • Provolone cheese melts well but you can substitute with mozzarella or Swiss if preferred.
  • Ensure the oil on the tortilla edges is enough to seal the roll ups to prevent unrolling during baking.
  • Keep an eye on the roll ups while baking to avoid burning; ovens vary in heat intensity.
  • The dipping sauce can be kept warm on low heat if preparing ahead.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute tortillas with gluten-free wraps.
