Description

Traditional Danish Butter Cookies are rich, buttery, and delightfully crisp. Made with simple ingredients like unsalted butter, sugar, and vanilla, these cookies are perfect for any occasion and are loved for their delicate crumb and buttery flavor.

Ingredients

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Topping

  • Granulated sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Make the Dough. In a mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter and granulated sugar on medium speed until the mixture is fluffy and well combined, about 1 to 2 minutes. Add the salt, vanilla extract, and egg, then continue beating until everything is completely combined, about 1 minute. Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the all-purpose flour until the dough is mostly combined. Use a rubber spatula to give it a few final stirs to make sure all the flour is fully incorporated resulting in a thick dough.
  3. Pipe the Cookies. Transfer the cookie dough into a decorating bag fitted with a large open star tip. Pipe the dough onto the prepared baking sheets in 2-inch circles spaced apart. Sprinkle granulated sugar on top of each cookie for a sweet, crunchy topping.
  4. Bake. Bake the cookies one baking sheet at a time in the preheated oven for 15 to 17 minutes, or until they turn light golden brown around the edges.
  5. Cool and Serve. Allow the cookies to cool completely on the baking sheets to set their shape and texture before serving or storing in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter to ensure even mixing and a light, fluffy dough.
  • Piping cookies with a star tip creates a classic textured look and even baking.
  • Sprinkling sugar on top before baking adds a subtle crunch and sparkle.
  • Allow cookies to cool fully to avoid breakage and maintain their crispness.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
