This Air Fryer Fish recipe delivers crispy, flavorful fish fillets in just 20 minutes using a simple coating of seasoned breadcrumbs and a quick air frying method. Perfect for a healthy, easy weeknight dinner, this recipe pairs beautifully with tartar sauce and fresh lemon wedges.
Ingredients
Fish and Coating
- 6-8 fish fillets
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (or vegetable oil)
- 1 cup dry bread crumbs
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder or granules
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
For Serving
- Tartar sauce
- Lemon wedges
Instructions
- Prepare the Fish: If the fish fillets are frozen, defrost them completely. Drizzle the fillets with olive oil, ensuring each piece is well coated to help the breading adhere and to promote crispiness during air frying.
- Mix the Coating: In a shallow dish, combine the dry bread crumbs with paprika, chili powder, ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Stir well to evenly distribute the spices.
- Bread the Fish: Coat each fish fillet thoroughly with the seasoned bread crumb mixture. Press gently to make sure the crumbs stick evenly to the surface of the fish.
- Air Fry the Fish: Place the breaded fish fillets in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Set the air fryer to 390°F (200°C) and cook for 12-15 minutes. After 8-10 minutes, carefully open the basket and flip the fillets to cook evenly on the other side. Continue cooking until the fish is golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: Remove the fish from the air fryer and serve immediately with tartar sauce and lemon wedges for squeezing over the top to add a fresh, tangy flavor.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh fish fillets or fully thaw frozen ones before cooking.
- You can swap olive oil with a neutral oil like vegetable or avocado oil depending on preference.
- If you prefer a spicier flavor, increase the chili powder slightly or add cayenne pepper.
- Make sure to not overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow even cooking and crisping.
- Check the fish doneness by ensuring it's opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
