Description
This vibrant Cranberry Aperol Spritz features festive ice cubes packed with orange slices, cranberries, star anise, cinnamon sticks, and rosemary, frozen in cranberry juice. These aromatic ice cubes chill and flavor the cocktail as they melt, combining with Aperol and Prosecco for a refreshing, visually stunning aperitif perfect for holiday gatherings or casual sipping.
Ingredients
For the Ice Cubes
- Orange slices, enough to place 1-2 slices per ice cube well
- Cranberries, enough for 1-2 per well
- Star anise, 1 small piece per well
- Cinnamon sticks, broken into small pieces, about 1 small piece per well
- Rosemary sprigs, 1 small sprig per well
- 2 cups cranberry juice
For the Cocktail
- 1 part Aperol
- 1 part Prosecco
Instructions
- Assemble Ice Cubes: Arrange orange slices and cranberries carefully into the bottom of each ice cube tray well. Add a piece of star anise, a small fragment of cinnamon stick, and a sprig of rosemary to each well to infuse aromatic flavors. Once satisfied with the arrangement, fill almost to the top of each well with cranberry juice, leaving a small gap to allow for expansion during freezing.
- Freeze: Place the ice cube tray in the freezer and freeze until solid, which typically takes about 4 hours. This step creates beautifully flavored and visually appealing ice cubes that will chill and enhance the cocktail.
- Serve the Cocktail: Place one large cranberry-infused ice cube (or approximately three smaller ones) into a serving glass. Pour equal parts Aperol and Prosecco over the ice cubes, allowing the sparkling wine to mingle with the flavors slowly as the ice melts. Serve immediately and enjoy the festive flavors.
Notes
- Use a large ice cube tray for best visual presentation and slower ice melt.
- The aromatic spices can be adjusted or omitted based on personal preference.
- For a non-alcoholic version, substitute Aperol and Prosecco with sparkling cranberry juice or soda.
- Ensure the cranberry juice is well chilled before pouring into the ice cube tray to speed freezing time.
- This cocktail is best served fresh after adding the sparkling wine to preserve the carbonation.
