Description
Deliciously crispy Crab Rangoon featuring creamy crab and cream cheese filling wrapped in golden wonton wrappers and fried to perfection. Served with a tangy dipping sauce, this appetizer is perfect for parties or a tasty snack.
Ingredients
Crab Rangoon Filling
- 8 ounces crab meat (or chopped imitation crab)
- 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3 tablespoons sliced green onions (plus more for garnish)
For Assembly and Frying
- 20 wonton wrappers
- 1 egg (beaten)
- Oil for frying (such as vegetable or canola oil)
- Dipping sauce for serving (such as sweet and sour or soy sauce-based)
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the crab meat, softened cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and sliced green onions. Stir well until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed.
- Fill the wontons: Place a wonton wrapper flat on a clean surface. Spoon about 2 teaspoons of the crab mixture into the center of the wrapper. Brush the edges of the wrapper lightly with the beaten egg to help seal.
- Seal the wontons: Bring two opposite corners of the wonton wrapper together in the middle and pinch to seal. Then bring the remaining two corners together and pinch, forming a tight package shape.
- Repeat filling and sealing: Continue filling and sealing the remaining wontons with the crab mixture until all are used.
- Heat the oil: Pour about 4 inches of oil into a deep pan and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain accurate temperature for even frying.
- Fry the wontons: Carefully place 5 to 6 wontons into the hot oil, frying them in batches. Turn them gently during frying to ensure even browning. Fry for approximately 3 to 5 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Drain excess oil: Remove the cooked wontons with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Serve: Arrange the crab rangoon on a serving platter. Garnish with additional sliced green onions and serve immediately alongside your preferred dipping sauce.
Notes
- Ensure the oil temperature stays consistent at 350°F to prevent soggy or greasy wontons.
- You can substitute imitation crab with real crab meat for a more authentic flavor.
- Be cautious not to overfill the wontons to prevent breaking during frying.
- Use a dipping sauce like sweet chili, soy sauce, or plum sauce for complementary flavors.
- Leftover crab rangoon can be reheated in an oven to retain crispiness but is best enjoyed fresh.
