Description
A soothing and classic hot toddy cocktail that combines warm water, whiskey, honey, and lemon juice for a comforting drink perfect for chilly evenings or easing cold symptoms.
Ingredients
Hot Toddy Ingredients
- ¾ cup water
- 1 ½ ounces whiskey
- 2 to 3 teaspoons honey, to taste
- 2 to 3 teaspoons lemon juice, to taste
- 1 lemon round
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the Water: In a tea kettle or small saucepan, bring the water to a simmer. Carefully pour the hot water into a mug to prepare the base of the toddy.
- Add Whiskey and Sweetener: Add the whiskey to the hot water. Stir in 2 teaspoons of honey and 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, mixing well until the honey fully dissolves. This balances the drink with sweetness and acidity.
- Taste and Adjust: Sample the toddy and add an additional teaspoon of honey if you prefer it sweeter, and/or an extra teaspoon of lemon juice if you like a more pronounced citrus zing. Stir again to combine.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish the drink with a lemon round and optionally a cinnamon stick for an aromatic presentation. Serve warm and enjoy the comforting flavors.
Notes
- Use good quality whiskey for best flavor.
- You can substitute honey with maple syrup for a different sweetness profile.
- The cinnamon stick is optional but adds a lovely aroma and subtle spice.
- This drink is traditionally served hot, so be careful when handling the hot water.
- Adjust the amount of lemon and honey according to your taste preference.
- Perfect for chilly days or to soothe a sore throat.
