Ingredients
Wet Ingredients
- 1¼ cups unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 1 cup lightly packed brown sugar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour (390 grams — either weigh the flour or fluff and spoon into a cup)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
Add-ins
- 1-2 cups chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with foil or parchment paper for easy removal.
- Cream Butter and Sugars: In a stand mixer bowl or large mixing bowl, cream together the room temperature butter with both brown and granulated sugars until smooth and fluffy.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time along with the vanilla extract, mixing until the batter is smooth and well combined.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking soda to the wet mixture and beat on low speed until just combined. Then fold in the chocolate chips using a wooden spoon or spatula, adding as many as you prefer.
- Press Dough into Pan: Evenly spread the cookie dough into the prepared pan. If the dough is sticky, use a piece of plastic wrap to press it down smoothly.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 35 minutes or until the edges turn golden and the center is almost set. The center may appear slightly underbaked as it will firm up while cooling.
- Cool and Slice: Allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan for about 20 minutes before removing the foil or parchment and slicing into bars. Let cool completely if you prefer firmer bars.
Notes
- Using parchment or foil to line the pan ensures easy removal of bars without breaking.
- Feel free to customize by adding nuts or different types of chocolate chips.
- Do not overbake; the bars will continue to set after removing from the oven for soft, chewy texture.
- Room temperature butter is essential for proper creaming with sugars.
- You can halve or double the recipe depending on your needs, adjusting baking time accordingly.
