Ingredients
Sauce
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
Main
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1 large carrot, peeled and finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 green onions (whites and greens), chopped
- 1 large head of lettuce, leaves separated
Instructions
- Combine Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the water, hoisin sauce, and low sodium soy sauce to create the flavorful sauce for the chicken.
- Cook Chicken: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and the ground chicken, breaking it apart as it cooks. Cook until the chicken is browned, approximately 5 minutes.
- Add Carrot: Lower the heat to medium. Add the finely diced carrot and the remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to the skillet.
- Sauté Vegetables: Cook the carrot for about 2 minutes, then add the minced garlic and the white parts of the green onions. Continue cooking for an additional minute, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Add Sauce: Pour in the prepared hoisin-soy sauce mixture. Stir well and cook until the sauce thickens, about 1 to 2 minutes.
- Serve: Spoon the chicken mixture into individual lettuce leaves. Top with the green parts of the chopped green onions and serve immediately for a fresh and tasty wrap.
Notes
- Use iceberg or butter lettuce for crisp, sturdy leaves that hold the filling well.
- For an extra kick, add a small amount of chili garlic sauce to the hoisin mixture.
- Ground turkey or pork can be substituted for chicken.
- To keep wraps low-carb and gluten-free, ensure hoisin and soy sauce are gluten-free versions.
- Serve with a side of steamed rice or as a light appetizer.
