Description

These Chicken Lettuce Wraps are a delicious, light, and savory dish featuring ground chicken cooked with fresh vegetables and a tasty hoisin-soy sauce, all wrapped in crisp lettuce leaves. Perfect as a quick appetizer or a light meal, they combine a harmonious blend of flavors and textures in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Sauce

  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce

Main

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 large carrot, peeled and finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 green onions (whites and greens), chopped
  • 1 large head of lettuce, leaves separated

Instructions

  1. Combine Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the water, hoisin sauce, and low sodium soy sauce to create the flavorful sauce for the chicken.
  2. Cook Chicken: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and the ground chicken, breaking it apart as it cooks. Cook until the chicken is browned, approximately 5 minutes.
  3. Add Carrot: Lower the heat to medium. Add the finely diced carrot and the remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to the skillet.
  4. Sauté Vegetables: Cook the carrot for about 2 minutes, then add the minced garlic and the white parts of the green onions. Continue cooking for an additional minute, allowing the flavors to meld.
  5. Add Sauce: Pour in the prepared hoisin-soy sauce mixture. Stir well and cook until the sauce thickens, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  6. Serve: Spoon the chicken mixture into individual lettuce leaves. Top with the green parts of the chopped green onions and serve immediately for a fresh and tasty wrap.

Notes

  • Use iceberg or butter lettuce for crisp, sturdy leaves that hold the filling well.
  • For an extra kick, add a small amount of chili garlic sauce to the hoisin mixture.
  • Ground turkey or pork can be substituted for chicken.
  • To keep wraps low-carb and gluten-free, ensure hoisin and soy sauce are gluten-free versions.
  • Serve with a side of steamed rice or as a light appetizer.
