Description

This Cajun Honey Butter Grilled Salmon recipe features perfectly grilled salmon fillets topped with a luscious, homemade Cajun-spiced honey butter. The smoky, spicy, and slightly sweet butter enhances the natural flavors of the salmon, making it an irresistible dish perfect for a quick and flavorful dinner.

Ingredients

Salmon

  • 4 salmon fillets
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for rubbing (such as olive oil or vegetable oil)

Cajun Honey Butter

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons paprika (smoked paprika recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper (or 1/2 teaspoon finely ground black pepper)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cajun Seasoning: In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, Italian seasoning, paprika, cayenne pepper, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and crushed red pepper flakes to create the Cajun seasoning blend.
  2. Make Cajun Honey Butter: Using an electric hand mixer, whip the unsalted butter on medium speed for about 2 minutes until light and fluffy. Add honey and the reserved 1 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning to the whipped butter and blend until smooth and fully incorporated. Set aside.
  3. Prep the Salmon: Pat the salmon fillets dry thoroughly on both sides with paper towels. Lightly rub each fillet all over with oil, then season both sides with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Grill the Salmon: Preheat your grill or grill pan to a medium-high heat. Cook the salmon fillets for 6 to 8 minutes on each side, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  5. Add Cajun Honey Butter: Once cooked, turn off the grill or stove. Place a generous dollop of the Cajun honey butter on top of each salmon fillet. Allow it to melt for about 30 seconds.
  6. Spread Butter Evenly: Use the back of a spoon to spread the melted butter over the top of the salmon. Flip each fillet and repeat the butter application on the other side to maximize flavor.
  7. Serve: Garnish the salmon with chopped fresh cilantro or parsley if desired. Serve immediately to enjoy the warm, flavorful dish.

Notes

  • The remaining Cajun seasoning can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 months for future use.
  • Room temperature butter whips better and creates a creamier honey butter.
  • If you don't have a grill, use a grill pan or broil the salmon in an oven with similar timing and heat settings.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper amount to control spice level according to your preference.
  • Use smoked paprika if available for a deeper smoky flavor.
