Ingredients
Shrimp and Marinade
- 2 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined with tails on
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- 2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon honey
Others
- Skewers (wooden or metal)
- Lemon slices for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare skewers: If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for about 30 minutes before grilling to prevent them from burning during cooking.
- Make the marinade: In a bowl, combine the melted butter, Cajun seasoning, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and honey. Mix thoroughly to create the Cajun-flavored butter marinade.
- Thread shrimp onto skewers: Rinse the shrimp, then pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Thread the shrimp evenly onto the skewers and place them on a sheet pan. Brush the shrimp on both sides generously with some of the prepared Cajun butter marinade.
- Grill shrimp: Preheat your grill to high heat. Place the shrimp skewers directly over the direct heat and grill for 2-3 minutes on the first side until the shrimp begins to turn pink, then flip and grill for another 2-3 minutes until the shrimp is no longer translucent and has a slight char.
- Finish and serve: Remove the shrimp skewers from the grill and immediately brush with the remaining Cajun butter marinade for extra flavor and moisture. Serve hot, garnished with lemon slices if desired.
Notes
- Soaking wooden skewers helps prevent them from burning on the grill.
- For extra smoky flavor, use a charcoal grill if available.
- Ensure shrimp is fully cooked but do not overcook to avoid toughness.
- You can substitute honey with maple syrup or agave nectar for a different sweetness.
- This recipe works well with other seafood like scallops or firm fish chunks.
