Description

This Bartender's Secret Bloody Mary Mix is a zesty, flavorful tomato juice-based cocktail mixer that combines horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, fresh lemon juice, and spices for the perfect balance of heat and tang. Ideal for making a classic Bloody Mary cocktail garnished with celery, olives, pickles, and lemon slices.

Ingredients

Bloody Mary Mix

  • 46 ounces tomato juice (Sacramento Tomato Juice or RW Knudsen Organic Tomato Juice recommended)
  • 4 tbsp horseradish (including some horseradish juice)
  • 2 tbsp gluten-free Worcestershire sauce
  • Juice of 2 fresh lemons
  • 2 tsp celery salt
  • 2 tsp fresh black pepper
  • 1 tsp Tabasco sauce (about 10-15 shakes)
  • 1 tbsp olive brine (olive juice)
  • 1 tbsp pickle juice (optional)

For Serving

  • 1 tbsp celery salt (for rimming glasses)
  • Celery stalks (for garnish)
  • Green olives (for garnish)
  • Pickles (for garnish)
  • Sliced lemon (for garnish and rimming glasses)
  • Ice cubes
  • Your choice of spirit (2 ounces per serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Juice the Lemons: Squeeze the juice from 2 fresh lemons into a large pitcher to provide a bright, tangy base for the mix.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add the tomato juice, horseradish (with juice), gluten-free Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, fresh black pepper, Tabasco sauce, olive brine, and optional pickle juice to the pitcher. Stir thoroughly to ensure all flavors are well mixed. Taste the mixture and adjust seasoning to your preference—for extra spice, increase the Tabasco.
  3. Prepare Glasses: Pour celery salt onto a small plate. Run a lemon wedge around the rim of each glass, then dip the rim into the celery salt to coat it evenly, creating a flavorful border.
  4. Assemble the Drink: Fill each rimmed glass with ice cubes. Add 2 ounces of your preferred spirit, if using. Pour the Bloody Mary mix on top to fill the glass.
  5. Garnish: Garnish each drink with a celery stalk, a lemon slice, green olives, and a pickle skewered together on a cocktail skewer or toothpick for a classic presentation and added flavor.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of Tabasco sauce to control the spiciness level of your Bloody Mary mix.
  • Pickle juice is optional but adds an extra tangy dimension to the cocktail.
  • The celery salt rim enhances the savory flavor complementing the drink perfectly.
  • This mix can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Use gluten-free Worcestershire sauce to keep the recipe gluten free.
