Description

This 8-Minute Broiled Miso Salmon recipe features tender, flaky salmon fillets marinated in a flavorful blend of white miso paste, mirin, soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger. Broiled to perfection, this dish is quick to make and perfect for a healthy weeknight dinner, optionally garnished with scallions, sesame seeds, and fresh cilantro for an extra touch of freshness.

Ingredients

Marinade Ingredients

  • ¼ cup (60g) white miso paste
  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar (or substitute with maple syrup or honey)
  • ¼ cup (60ml) mirin
  • 2 Tbsp (35ml) low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 Tbsp (15ml) sesame oil
  • 2 tsp ginger paste (or fresh chopped ginger)

Main Ingredient

  • 4 (6 oz each) salmon fillets (skin on or off)

For Serving (Optional)

  • Thinly sliced scallions
  • Black and white sesame seeds
  • Fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Make the marinade: In a mixing bowl, whisk together ¼ cup white miso paste, ¼ cup granulated sugar, ¼ cup mirin, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, and 2 teaspoons ginger paste until smooth and well combined.
  2. Marinate the salmon: Place the salmon fillets in a large airtight container or Ziplock bag. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the marinade for later use. Pour the remaining marinade over the salmon, ensuring each piece is well coated. Seal and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 2 hours to allow flavors to infuse.
  3. Cook the salmon: Preheat your oven broiler to high. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil and lightly spray it with cooking spray. Arrange the marinated salmon fillets skin side down on the sheet, letting excess marinade drip off. If the marinade is too thick, gently rub off the excess. Broil for 6 to 8 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through cooking, until the internal temperature reaches 125°F (52°C) and the salmon is tender and flaky.
  4. Finish and serve: Brush the cooked salmon fillets with the reserved marinade for extra flavor. Serve immediately garnished with thinly sliced scallions, a sprinkle of black and white sesame seeds, and fresh cilantro for a bright, aromatic finish.

Notes

  • Marinate salmon for at least 30 minutes but no more than 2 hours to avoid overpowering the fish.
  • You can substitute granulated sugar with maple syrup or honey to add a natural sweetness.
  • Use tamari instead of soy sauce if you require a gluten-free option.
  • Broiling cooks the salmon quickly; watch closely to avoid overcooking.
  • Internal temperature of 125°F (52°C) is recommended for tender, medium-rare salmon; adjust timing for preferred doneness.
