Description

This 3-Ingredient Healthy Nutella is a deliciously simple and wholesome homemade chocolate hazelnut spread. Made with toasted raw hazelnuts, cocoa powder, and coconut sugar, it’s a nutritious alternative to traditional Nutella, free from artificial additives and refined sugars. Perfect for spreading on toast, mixing into yogurt, or enjoying by the spoonful.

Ingredients

Nutella Spread Ingredients

  • 2 cups raw hazelnuts
  • 3 tablespoons coconut sugar (or any granulated sweetener of choice)
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Toast Hazelnuts: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Spread the raw hazelnuts in a single layer on a baking pan and toast them for 7-8 minutes until they’re fragrant and lightly browned.
  2. Cool and Remove Skins: Allow the toasted hazelnuts to cool completely. Transfer them to a large dish towel, wrap the corners, then rub and shake vigorously with one hand to loosen and remove the skins.
  3. Discard Skins: Open the dish towel and discard the hazelnut skins that have fallen off to reveal the clean nuts.
  4. Blend Hazelnuts to Cream: Place the peeled hazelnuts into a high-speed blender or food processor. Blend for 2-3 minutes until the nuts turn into a fine flour-like texture. Stop to scrape the sides with a rubber spatula, then continue blending until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
  5. Add Cocoa and Sweetener: Add the cocoa powder and coconut sugar to the blended hazelnuts. Continue blending until the ingredients are fully combined and the spread is silky smooth.
  6. Store the Spread: Transfer the homemade chocolate hazelnut spread into a clean jar or container. Seal tightly and store at room temperature or refrigerate for longer shelf life.

Notes

  • Using raw hazelnuts is important to develop the best flavor through toasting.
  • Removing the skins helps reduce bitterness and improves the smoothness of the spread.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less coconut sugar according to taste.
  • Store in an airtight container; refrigerate to extend freshness but bring to room temperature before using for easier spreading.
  • If the spread thickens in the fridge, stir in a small amount of neutral oil to loosen it.
